drop the ball
把球扔了，是不对的。所以这个俚语引申为“犯错误”的意思。
Every time I've ever asked you to do something,you drop the ball.
每次我要求你做的事情，你总是失误。
the ball is in one's court
球在某人的院子里，有点像小时候不小心把球打到别人院子里，然后要乖乖地去恳求别人还给你。所以引申为“由某人来决定”的意思。

clear a big hurdle
hurdle是“跳栏”的意思，整个俚语意为：战胜困难。

a fighting chance
fighting是“搏击”的意思，a fighting chance意为：有机会做某事。

sink or swim
“下沉”或“游泳”，俚语中的意思是：孤注一掷。
This industry is very competitive,you either sink or swim–you cannot be average.
