拆分题目中的概括性名词
我们在部分写作题目中会看见具有概括性的名词。这类词指整类事物或现象，能划分出多个种类，如people，things，problems，activities等。那么当题目中出现这类词时，我们就可以将它们分情况进行讨论，比如下面这道题目：
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Advertising can tell you a lot about a country.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
这道题目中的advertising是一个概括性的名词，因为广告有很多类别。比如，我们可以根据广告的内容举出三类广告：公益广告(public service advertising)，旅游广告(tourism advertising)和高科技产品的广告(high-tech product advertising)。
公益广告由于其主题的现实性，能够让人们了解到这个国家主要的社会问题(social problems)，旅游广告让人们看到国家的著名旅游景点(tourist attractions)，高科技产品的广告能让人见识到一个国家的科技发展(technological development)，比如智能手机的广告。
所以，这题持同意立场的三个分论点可以为：
分论点1
Public service advertising usually tells its audience the main social problems of a country.
分论点2
Tourism advertisements show people a country’s famous tourist attractions.
分论点3
By watching high-tech product commercials, one will see the nation’s latest developments of technology.
按影响对象进行拆分
除了拆题目中可见的概括性名词外，我们还可以根据题中隐含的影响对象来拆，比如下面这道例题：
Some people think that the automobile has improved modern life. Others think that the automobile has caused serious problems. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
首先，这道题如果选择认同第二句，即认为汽车造成了很多问题，就可以用我们之前介绍的拆概括性名词的方法来将“problems”进行拆分。汽车带来的问题可不少，比如：环境污染(environmental pollution)，能源短缺(energy shortage)，交通堵塞(traffic congestion)，安全问题(safety issues)，健康问题(health problems) 等…
因此，分论点可以是：

One problem brought by the automobile is environmental pollution.
分论点2
Another concern caused by the automobile is energy shortage.
分论点3
Popularity of the automobile has also given rise to safety issues.
那如果选择认同题中的第一句话，认为汽车改善了现代生活, 我们可以讨论汽车对不同对象-既对个体，群体，整体- 的影响。对个体，汽车使得个人的生活更加舒适和便利(comfortable and convenient)；对群体，汽车的出现为一部分人提供了就业机会(job opportunities)；对整体，汽车推动了国家经济的发展，同学们可以举汽车工业(auto industry)和高速公路建设(highway construction)等的例子。
所以，我们可以列出如下分论点：
